Ready Player One Trailer 1 Review

I really liked the teaser we got for Ready Player One at San Diego Comic Con in 2017; it gave a brief look at how the movie will operate but never really gave any story points. The music in the trailer was brilliant, using ‘Pure Imagination’ to introduce the OASIS before moving into ‘Tom Sawyer’ by Rush. As good as that teaser was, it was just that, a tease of what was to come.

This trailer places more emphasis on the story being told and who some of the characters are. We get a better look at the OASIS and what it is, but we still don’t learn about all the pop culture characters that are featured in the trailer. Why are The Joker and Harley Quinn in a movie with The Iron Giant and the DeLorean? I don’t know, but I can’t wait to find out. I really dig the look of OASIS; it definitely looks like a virtual reality for people to escape too. It will be interesting to see how it all looks on the big screen but for now I think it looks fantastic due to the computer graphics nature of its appearance.

One thing is for sure is that Ready Player One may have the best soundtrack of any movie next year, if the marketing is anything to go off. This was definitely a strong trailer; it gave enough information for the audience to see the type of film it is, without spoiling major plot points or ruining the movie.

Here is the offical synopsis:

The film is set in 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. But the people have found salvation in the OASIS, an expansive virtual reality universe created by the brilliant and eccentric James Halliday (Mark Rylance). When Halliday dies, he leaves his immense fortune to the first person to find a digital Easter egg he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparking a contest that grips the entire world. When an unlikely young hero named Wade Watts (Tye Sheridan) decides to join the contest, he is hurled into a breakneck, reality-bending treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of mystery, discovery and danger.
