Avengers: Infinity War Trailer 1 Review

Well it is finally here, after the first trailer was released at D23 back in July of this year to only a few thousand people, Disney and Marvel have released to the public the first look at the culmination of the MCU to date, Avengers Infinity War. Based on the reports I read this isn’t the same trailer that was released at D23 and Comic Con, but that doesn’t matter because this achieved its goal. Getting audience even more excited than they already should be.

I think this trailer is a great way to start the marketing campaign for a movie that is about 5 months away (April 25th in Australia, May 4th North America). We get a little bit of an insight into what Thanos is attempting to do by adding Infinity Stones to his Gauntlet, we get a look at where our main characters are after the events but we don’t get to see all of them and we get to see some of the epic scale that this movie will reach. It also doesn’t give away any major plot points but rather sets the tone for what is to come in the biggest Marvel Cinematic Universe film to date. I absolutely loved this trailer

We don’t get any shots of the full team together but we do get some cool team shots, the New York team and the Wakanda team as well as Thor’s new friends all of which are really awesome shots. Seeing Tony Stark and Doctor Strange team up to see who is the biggest smart arse in the MCU is one thing, but seeing the two Sherlocks on screen together makes it even better. Jumping to Wakanda, who didn’t get excited hearing Panther say “Get that man a shield” and seeing bearded Cap walk out of the shadows, that was a brilliant cut. It was great to see a little tease of Thor and the Guardians at the end of the trailer, with teenage Groot and Star Lord with a moustache (don’t worry, I’m sure we can digitally remove it).

It looks like Black Panther and Wakanda feature heavily in the trailer, which could mean a couple of things. I think the Disney marketing machine are trying to be smart by keeping Black Panther in the front of everyones mine given that it is the next MCU movie to be release. It could also be teasing that maybe the final Infinity Stone has something to do with Black Panther. The final option is that Marvel is setting Black Panther up as a future leader of The Avengers, given Kevin Feige’s comments about a future shake up, but right now that is speculation, half the reason we analyse trailers.

I am going to keep coming back to this but my favourite part of the trailer was Alan Silvestri’s score of the Avengers Theme. If that didn’t leave fans of the MCU with tingly feelings I don’t know what will. The way it slowly builds in the intro of the trailer, culminating in the Marvel title card and then plays loudly at the end of the trailer, it gets me every time I watch it.
