Sometimes you just don’t feel like going out or doing anything on a Saturday night other than lying in bed watching a movie. These movies might not be specific to one genre but they usually have one thing in common, they are easy to watch. These new posts are recommendations for easy to watch movies that you might enjoy on you Saturday night in.
This week’s recommendation is: Pacific Rim
Pacific Rim
Recommendation: Pacific Rim is perhaps my biggest guilty pleasure movie. It is about giant robots (Jaegers) fighting giant alien monsters (Kaiju) and it brought out my inner child, where I use to make my toys fight by hitting them together. That’s basically what this movie is and it is a ridiculous amount of fun. It is perhaps the most awesome dumb movie you can see, but what makes it work is the fact it is directed by Guillermo del Toro, who clearly had fun making this movie. Something I love about this movie is the inclusion of other nations in the fight, the fact that Australia has a Jaeger call Striker Eureka (the most Australian name ever) make me love the movie even more. The bad Australian accents are definitely a let down, but it doesn’t ruin the movie. Pacific Rim is a self aware sci-fi movie that is easy to watch, making it ideal for a Saturday night.
Synopsis: As a war between humankind and monstrous sea creatures wages on, a former pilot and a trainee are paired up to drive a seemingly obsolete special weapon in a desperate effort to save the world from the apocalypse.
Director: Guillermo del Toro
Starring: Idris Elba, Charlie Day, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Ron Perlman, Clifton Collins Jr.
Running Time: 131mins
Rating: M Science fiction violence

This is just such a fun film. I saw it in Imax back in the day and it was just an awesome experience. One of those movies that of course doesn’t have an incredible script, but who cares, it’a just mindless fun! Terrific film, and certainly one of my favorites as well. As always, great post! 😀
